Vowels and Tongue and Jaw, Oh My!

Is the ultimate singing Beelzebub….high notes? Nope. Is not breathing well is the vocalist kryptonite? If only. How about standing with the most erect posture and dropping that blasted jaw? As if.

None of the above shall capture phonation’s prince of darkness. Rather it is the seductive glance of closing vowels, especially in the interior of the phrase to “hit” that high note or reign the most royal in a long phrase contest.

Tis amazing how much havoc Lucifer can wreak when we give into the randy appeal of forming our tongue just so, shrinking our Italian vowels out of fear, and dropping our jaw to our neck so we can “get” that note.

For every habit we have formed, there is an insecure little vowel that didn’t have the self confidence to stand strong against the great singing snake temptress. A vocal villian that if employed for enough years, will diminish our organic facility that once just needed the tlc and affirmation that fibrous open vowels is the road to the promised land.

What habits lurk for you and need to be emancipated?
