Come to the dark side….

Let’s be honest. In order to sound natural on an instrument, in my case, with my voice, there is a heck of lot of technical pain and suffering. In general, I am seeing the fruits of my labors since my early teenaged lessons. Language and artistry wise, I’ll be in training for the long haul. There are always new ears and something else to learn.

My biggest technical beelzebub over the last four decades has been the dark vowel crutch. It sounds good in my head (not real) and it is easier to find than actually singing a pure vowel (I’ll blame my Midwest accent on this one.) So, I continue to work on not over-darkening my vowels especially in the middle voice.

When I begin a new piece, my dark vowel tendencies want to take residence.

Luckily I have diligent coaches around me who don’t let me fall down the dark vowel slide.

So after a successful weekend of singing, I’m back woodshedding and working to find my most efficient sound, in this case, time to get my groove going with Amelia’s Morro.

My lack of faith shan’t be disturbing. I fully subscribe to the church of pure vowels.

Patience I must have, strong the force will be.
