Before teaching at Judd elementary, I worked for over a decade with middle school which is a whole other vibe. Humor is definitely darker. This mug reminds me of those days. I definitely had to pipe down when I started working with the littles; last century Perryman still pops out sometimes.
Tonight I was thinking about the tongue and cheek quips delivered over the years by various music directors. It definitely wasn’t delivered meanly or it wouldnt have worked for me.
Below are some of the humorously shady standouts over the years.
- Your Czech was good. Your French was pedestrian.
- Nice high A.
- You have an impressive 9 note passagio.
- Outside of f#5, you sound good!
- Sing it with sparkle not like a incoming missile.
- Don’t feel like you can’t be musical when you sing straight tone ;-)))
- Just count, it’ll never fail you.
And the comment below wasn’t funny back in the day but it is REALLY funny now:
“I loved your fountain in the rain. You’re a pianist, not a singer.”
I gave myself shade myself tonight as I became hyper aware of the artificial covering I was doing on a Latin E mid voice:
