TALE OF TWO TENORS

Today was a delightful voice exploration with two talented tenors. Both come to their lessons very driven and ready to woodshed (which I have found to be common with this voice type;-) Teaching voice after 3 decades continues to be a journey of finding authentic compression and efficient phonation via a meeting of mutual vocabulary. These two whippersnappers come to the pedagogy table so to speak with fresh perspectives when vocally guided. Patrick said in his epic stream of conscious “I have a lot of words at my disposal that I tend to use at my discretion.” Indeed.
Some of their discoveries of note were the following as I worked through Italian vowels, body release in particular the neck/jaw/tongue…..
Patrick: When I was able to produce the singing order of operations (breathe into vowel space) I found the balance between the syrup and carbonation (which I found an amazing analogy to core and compression of singing). It felt WEIRD; more present in front, not clutched, less hiding, more enjoyable and thoughtless, free to be more honest, felt more lyric and overall more immediate. Side note, Kiwi seems to enjoy his beard.
Brian @thetacetmode found his alignment with the coexisting of the ng lean, spacious breath, free tongue, and contact to compression. When these elements were thriving, he was able to trust and surrender to the aerobically energetic breath support. His quotes throughout are always spot on. What we resist, definitely does persist.
As I help others to strip the layers of tension we build out of fear, I challenge myself to practice what I preach. My singing continues to evolve my robust matron years, waxing towards crone. Giddy up. #voiceteacher #tenors #spaceandenergy #bodykeepscount #akintsucrooner
