VOICE STUDIO MIDTERM PRACTICUM FUN
E. Perryman 4.2.2025

I held the midterm exam for my applied voice studio tonight. The collegiates came through with flying colors on this practical application exam. Each student led one vowel focused vocalize and one tongue twister. I was declared officially the “voices in their head” as I whispered vocal remedy interjections to them at certain passaggio points etc. It was delightful to see these young pedagogy padawans wear their varied teacher hats and put their own spin on how to teach others to sing. I was inspired by their fresh takes and creative approaches.

Highlights of the night included the following:

  1. An adorned whiteboard with helpful visual aides and thoughtful challenges e.g. “sing this pattern on solfège.”
  2. Empathy in relating with each other regarding the ongoing challenges we face as singers.
  3. One had the innate teacher look mastered e.g. they are a lot of fun but you know not to mess with them.
  4. Meeting resonant speaker Dr Bobbington, an alter ego of one of the students who captured our undivided attention.
  5. Vernacular standouts: Let your arms be noodles; find your twisty twisty, feel the pocket of an open embouchure, and find your Kermit mouth.
