Diaconate Ordination

Diaconate Ordination 2025. #DiaconateOrdination #NewarkCathedral #basilica

In the Catholic Church, a deacon is an ordained minister who holds the first level of Holy Orders. Deacons serve as a sacramental sign of Jesus’s service and are called to a ministry of service and charity. They have a threefold role: serving the Word, the Sacraments, and Charity.

Brahms & Mahler Concert

My brain and body has officially rode the rigorous Brahms requiem choral elliptical. Twas invigorating. Bravi, tutti Thomas Juneau & @summitchorale!

Brahms’s quotes about his German Requiem reveal his intentions for the work: universal rather than purely religious, and focused on solace for the living rather than the dead. He expressed a desire to title it “Human Requiem” instead of “German Requiem” to emphasize its broader appeal He also noted that he chose specific biblical passages because they were musically useful and not to be interpreted as religious dogma. The Requiem begins with a quotation from the Beatitudes: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” This focus on how life is lived sets the tone for five of the seven movements, each of which move from mourning and anxiety to comfort. #brahmsrequiem #summitchorale #mahlerresurrection

Who are you?

WHO ARE YOU?

By E. Perryman

#akintsucrooner 5.17.2025

Potty humor trigger warning…

WHICH BELOW RESONATES WITH YOU THE MOST?

  1. ARE YOU SPICY?
  2. ARE YOU A RISK TAKER?
  3. ARE YOU UNCONVENTIONAL?
  4. ARE YOU A PARTY PERSON?
  5. ARE YOU DRIVEN?
  6. ARE YOU DETACHED?
  7. ARE YOU DEPRESSED?
  8. ARE YOU FEARFUL?
  9. ARE YOU ANGRY?
  10. ARE YOU NERVOUS?

Where does your personality fit in best with the ten characteristics from above?

When I teach voice, it’s always a hoot to engage and guide varied student energies. My pedagogical direction and vocal approach is often as good as I can vibe with the student’s general demeanor. I have personally encompassed all of these ten characteristics at some point in my life.

As a young maiden singer, I was more detached and fearful. As a matron singer, I’m often spicy and party minded. I suspect my crone era should I be granted will be predominantly fearless and unconventional (always with spice;-).

What inspired my latest akintsucrooner pontification you may not be wondering? Well I shall tell you regardless.

Today, I said to my driven, risk taking tenor that his breath connection coordination has come a long way. I asked him to describe what he’s been applying since we last worked. He said since I asked he would share.

In short, he found contact through his pelvic floor muscles in conjunction with expansion and descent of diaphragm while he was conducting number 2 in the bathroom. His words were more descriptive. Nope, I haven’t heard candor at this level in the last 30 years of teaching but ya know, whatever gets that space, energy, core, and authentically blended sound is a win in my book.

Keep calm and pelvic muscle on, indeed. Giddy up.

Nephew Jack Graduates

I am enormously proud of my wise and diligent nephew Jack Perryman who graduated Magna Cum Laude from Law School today. Jack was also selected for membership as a graduate in the top 10% of his class for the esteemed honorary law society “Order of the Coif.” Your Grandpa Bruce and Uncle Matt are beaming from above, JMP. #jurisdoctor #orderofthecoif #washingtonandlee #magnacumlaude

Brahms & Mahler Rehearsals

It’s been a whirlwind on my first full voyage through the masterpieces that are the Brahms Requiem and Mahler “Resurrection” Symphony #2. My brain has been firing on all cylinders getting this music into my mind, body, and spirit. Excited for Saturday #grateful

“Without craftsmanship, inspiration is a mere reed shaken in the wind.” Johannes Brahms

“Discipline, work. Work, discipline.” Gustav Mahler

School Shenanigans

SCHOOL SHENANIGANS 5.14.2025
Apparently using the term “cell phone” can freeze the brain of a generation alpha child.

Me: Make sure to include your parents cell phone #
Kid: What’s a cell?
Me: It’s the phones we use today; most of us don’t have a landline. Does anyone still have a landline?
Kids: Huh?
Me: (After explaining landlines) Before my time, my mom had a party line where people shared a line via telephone operator. You guys have at least seen a pay phone right?
Kids: I know PayPal!

I clearly told some unfunny old people jokes because one sassy student passenger told me point blank“you’re being cringe, Ms Perryman.

Advanced recorder auditions are Friday. As we were practicing, one of the kids said students should be disqualified if they put the wrong hand on top. Without a pause, their neighbor said “DON’T GIVE HER ANY IDEAS!”

In other news, the student who shared that he forgets all of his solo lyrics when he leaves school was reminded of the correct words this week by his Mom when he was singing in the shower. TMI, kid. 😆

3 Weeks Of A Habit

MY BODY WORK

April 21, 2025-Present Day

Starting on Monday April 21st (Easter Monday) after a very long and physically tiring Holy Week, I have been doing modified intermittent fasting. I have been making a lot of progress.  What pushed me over the edge was my numbers, lack of saiety, challenges standing without perspiring, and my swollen feet.

UPDATED ROUTINE:

  1. I record my food and weigh daily.
  2. I am generally eating at 12 12 window and sometimes longer between 16-8 window.
  3. I’m down 15 lbs.
  4. My pulse is down 12 points to 77.
  5. I’m getting sleep scores every night.
  6. I’ve been reaching for the carbs first in a meal much less.
  7. I sometimes feel panic at night but I so appreciate the food management agency I have with IF.
  8. I’m down a size.
  9. I go up and down the stairs easier and can do it 2 feet at a time.
  10. I’m sweating less.
  11. I realize that I haven’t felt agency with food since I was very young. I wasn’t given choice; assumptions were made, and the food modeling was a scarcity and binge mindset.

My continued realizations:

  1. Hunger can be a mean ole liar.
  2. Strange crap shows up when you don’t  just eat mindlessly.
  3. Boredom and food don’t play in the sandbox nicely.
  4. I sleep and get out of bed better in the morning when I haven’t eaten in a while.
  5. I realize it’s been a long time since I have abstained from food for a period of time. I usually just vacillate between a grazing of overeating or restriction.
