The last phone call I had with my dad was on a pay phone at the LSU theater. It was Sunday night before magic flute tech week and my metropolitan opera regional finals. I was tired and stressed. Dad and I chatted. He told me he wasn’t going to audition for Leperello in Don Giovanni with a chicago group. I was annoyed. He was so good on stage. I told him I loved him and asked to speak to Janet Perryman. I sure wish it would have been a better call as he would suddenly pass away the next morning playing the organ at the church of the ascension. The hospital acronym DOA still makes me cringe. I miss you dearly my exuberant, intense, and loving Dad. I hope you’re chatting up Tarnia Van Zitters and Cara Shlau and excited to meet the lovely Steven Updegraff (Jessica Updegraff) also gone way too soon.

I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the ordeal of meeting me is another matter. Winston Churchill
