Coaching a Singer #diemainacht

When I take a piece to a vocal coaching with @giovanni_pianista, it is always quite the dust off and recalibration. When I finished the summer program at @desmoinesmetroopera in 2000, Dr Larsen charged the young artists to make sure to find a few sets of refined musical ears that we trust as we move forward. 5 years ago, I found one such set of ears with GL. This summer I sing the Brahms for my quarter German heritage and for my lush mezzo pal @carashlau who sounded wonderful in German lieder. #vocalcoaching #diemainnacht #brahms

Noom Prompt: Past Present Future Observations #62022

I edited the below prompt into an arts and crafts activity.

Write a narrative that considers where you’ve been, where you’re going, and most importantly, where you are.

Write from a third-person omniscient perspective; as an observer who knows all the thoughts and feelings of the character (and that character, of course, is you!)

PAST: disconnected, insatiable, distorted, whimsy

PRESENT: Building, accountable, aware, log

FUTURE: Breath, Pause with options, body scan, feel & forgive

Fog Eating, Noom & A Decision Matrix #6252022

Problem: I still fog eat (eat mindlessly and insatiably) even within a controlled dietary plan.

Food is the symptom of my core struggles. I struggle with filling the void of insecurity and value. I use food to avoid feeling those feelings. Decisions I make are sometimes affected by distorted thoughts, absolute thinking, and decision fatigue.

The Transtheoretical Model (1994) shows in a diagram the process of change.

Options to change behavior include:

Be mindful.

Breathe first.

Exercise more.

Values of these behavior include:

Joy.

Feasibility.

Sustainability.

What would a behavior matrix of this information look like and what would their values be?

I didn’t have mobile craft supplies so I used my salad lid, purse sharpie, and handy hair clip to make my decision matrix. It’s time to wrangle fog eating flo. Her energy vamping is unwelcome. 🙃 #fogeaters #decisionmatrix #nooming

Civil Rights 6.25.22

My aunt just called to see how Elizabeth and I are doing and that she’s concerned for us. We will take the legal steps needed to protect our civil rights in the next few weeks. Her call meant the world to us. This morning I sang a funeral mass. We did many of the hits; eagles wings, ave maria etc. Even though yours truly was the cantor, a UCC baptized and confirmed Protestant who deeply believes in pro choice and reproductive rights, I sang to all as we are truly walking each other home. #avemaria #prochoiceisprolife

Tenacious Noom Articles #61922

My bedazzled ladder law was inspired by today’s noom article. It depicts the emotional landscape of my eating habits: where I am currently (my mindset is still prone to food soothing despite continued weight loss), what I’m doing to implement healthy and authentic habits, and what I visualize as future success post weight loss goal.❤️

Random Memories #62022

Ya never know when a random memory will return. This particular memory came back to me tonight. It goes back to my teaching gig in Cicero, Illinois in 1998. A custodian would tell the 7/8th grade students at dismissal, “go home youngsters and wait for death.” Wacky memory indeed.

Happy Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to my Dad, Bruce, who is no longer with us in person but gave us a treasure of love and life that will always be with me. When I become emotional at my voice lessons when my extraordinary voice teacher Andrea DelGiudice guides me to another level of vocal prowess, I can hear my father’s delighted guffaw.

Happy Father’s Day to my big bro, Neal F. Perryman, who continues to prove that he was correct in 1984. He is most excellent and I know Dad is bursting his buttons with pride.

Happy Father’s Day to everyone; regardless of biology, who support, teach, bond, encourage, prepare, and care for others.
