I have learned how to sing over the years out of urgent necessity and sheer will. The fear that came with having to cobble a technique from a recalcitrant dramatic voice that originated with a breathy middle voice and cracking passaggio definitely motivated me; hence my blog title “akintsucrooner” as Mary Anne Bruner knows ❤️🙏🏻. Following my varied music degrees, I have a bag full of tools from my own travels; triage ready for the vocal needs of singers of all levels. Teaching vocal master classes are a few of my favorite things. Last week I taught voice 101 so to speak for students ages 13–18 at Pied Piper Children’s Theatre. Grateful to my gifted artist and lovely friend who invited me. Thank you to Pied Piper Lesly de Groot The Pied Piper Children’s Theatre Miranda Foundation @leslydegrootaxelrod ❤️🙏🏻🎶

Today, my delightful UNLV comrade and lovely friend Lesly de Groot asked me to present a voice class for her middle and high school students at their summer intensive musical theater program. It was a joy to hear these kids and experience their enthusiasm as we briefly surveyed vocal technique. #grateful #voiceclass #voiceteacher #summerprogram
Special night out with the nephew Will Perryman before he goes back to his final year of law school after he completed his summer internship in NYC. Neal F. Perryman & Ann Held Perryman have 3 great offspring indeed. Loved The View @4everrayray! ❤️❤️❤️ #summer #nephew #nyc #theview
Proud of this diverse group of singers on their performances today. It can daunting to sing in front of peers and they sang their hearts out from the varied musical menu. Giddy up. #voiceclass #voiceteacher #summer2025
MY TAKE ON THE OPERA MERMAID State of the Seaworld VS Humankind (1901) By E. Perryman 7.19.2025 #akintsucrooner
I believe Rusalka was human after all. She unknowingly held infinite power. This opera story is her coming of age tragic tale. Yes, she was naive regarding the fickleness of mortal love but she remained steadfast in her soulful belief of immortal love. She showed her inner strength throughout the journey of self discovery and ultimately found out that she was not alone in her despair. Rusalka stoically resigned herself to a life of doom after being rejected thus becoming a will o the wisp “bludička.” Her father clearly nurtured her imagination with human stories in her past but he clearly didn’t expect his daughter to give up everything to experience human life. Rusalka was no empty little worthless bubble aka “Bublinecko” as she was referred to by her bitter Aunt Ježibaba. She courageously refused the witch’s offer to win back her sea life by taking the Prince’s life. As much as Rusalka seemed to admire the elemental powers of Ježibaba, she was able to distinguish morality even in the midst of her Aunt’s malignancy. I am curious about the back story of Ježibaba and Dad. Perhaps Papa yearned for humanity which leads him to plant the yearning in his daughter with his stories. Rusalka explicitly leaves out no details when she explains her love for a mortal to Dad. Her passion is palatable. She was clearly a dramatically driven child as referenced musically in her romantic lyrical lines and frequent passionate outbursts above the staff. She often repeats herself (when she can speak) and chooses eternal suffering in exchange for having a few transcendent moments with the Prince. There are no tritones that Rusalka doesn’t adore as she often leads her emotional plea with this unsettling interval with text such as “I’m so sad I can’t breathe.” Rusalka seems to be firmly inhabiting the land of enneagram 4 as a sensitive individualist who deeply values uniqueness. She gives up her voice to experience love depicted musically with an unrelated yet satisfying harmonic change in one of her poignant vocal lines from G major to Db major. In the end, it was Rusalka who absolved the prince with her deadly kiss so he could find peace. She selflessly sacrificed material happiness which in my book makes the case that Rusalka proved her inherent humanity by the end of her tale. EAP #rusalka #littlemermaid

Today, I watched my voice student with admiration as she immediately tapped into deep emotions with just one text directive in her lesson. She said “I feel all of the feels. I feel all of the feels in others in too.” Feeling immediate emotions is a powerful character trait imo. I haven’t always felt all the feels. I was deeply sensitive but didn’t know how to express the buried emotions. I was numbly detached when my beloved Dad died suddenly. Tears followed his passing at random times. I remember passing out a month later after all was settled with the funeral. I continue to grieve his loss in waves 24 years later.
Perhaps it’s my Gen X roots. It wasn’t uncommon to hear statements such as “don’t cry” and “children should be seen but not heard” during my formative years. Plus (thank you, New Orleans), emotions became more immediate as my burgeoning bisexual slowly unveiled. It continues to this day to dawn on me in which culture has erroneously programmed me to be straight until proven gay. Anywho, keep on trucking and moving us forward future generations. #feeling #genx #voiceteacher
