AGNUS DEI/ARR. RANEY Elizabeth Honer & Elizabeth Perryman
I am a long time fan of Michael W. Smith. I cherished my first cassette “go west young man”. I have fond memories singing the Alleluia with ribbon wands at Tower Hill Camp and Retreat Center on the pavillion behind where the Valley barracks used to stand.
Eliz and I love this Joel Raney version “Agnus Dei” that incorporates “How great thou art”.
Kiwi intended to be heard on this Easter sunday. She plays a prominent role in the video; somewhat matching pitch when the piece begins to climax.
LAUDATE DOMINUM/MOZART Elizabeth Perryman, Soprano Giovanni Longo, Pianist
We musicians are a motley lot…ya never know where you’ll meet your tuneful tribe….Vegas, the Big Easy, Staten Island….
In the case of Elizabeth, we met on Roosevelt Island near a former asylum…
In the case of Giovanni, it was for me a last minute mozart countess opera scenes gig….
Today Giovanni and I did a piece that I’ve been singing since undergraduate. I fell in love with Kiri Te Kanawa singing Laudate Dominum from Mozart’s solemn vespers on the royal wedding sacred album.
This is a deceptively tricky piece that requires long lifted lines and extended register blend prowess….I have continued to make strides over the years to the point that I don’t have to think of technique much anymore…..
Glad to have had a chance to make music on this piece tonight.
Queen @miriam.lupu_ achieved my voice student’s coveted “shutteth up thy Liz” when she wafted through the passagio sand trap in this piece with height of position and un-efforted breath flow. We also found the non aspirate extended inhalation of breath today after I annoyed her enough. 🤭 Love these wunderkind @wagnercollege voice students. @antt_romano @wannabe.clown @__princessleah @karafreedmann #waxonwaxoffwaft #voiceteacher #akintsucrooner
What song would I like at my funeral, you may not be wondering?
I’m not planning on going anywhere anytime soon. Hopefully that day is a long time away but every year during holy week I am reminded of the song I want at my funeral.
It is…..”God’s right hand and holy arm.”
I want brass, timpani, handbells, gold lamé ribbons wands Jennifer Marie, and a robust choir singing with sopranos heroically belting out the ending descant (in which case I will return to join in if the death has no sting celebratory spirit is less than euphoric.) Heroic and hopeful for the win. 😁
As you were. #dirtnaptune #godsrighthandandholyarm #nocap
“God’s right hand and holy arm have won the victory. Christ being raised from the dead shall die no more. Death has no power over him; he lives to God. Why seek the living now among the dead? Recall his promise unto you; he lives again. Gone is death’s victory, gone is death’s sting. God gives to us the victory through Christ our Lord.”
In my back to natural noctural state during Spring Break 2025, I found these gems below about my father, Bruce F. Perryman when he went to DePaul University. I never knew he was honored as who’s who, made the Dean’s List every semester, performed the Vaughn Williams mystical songs at U of I Champaign, and was a member of the Advanced ROTC Corps of cadets.
It was also a joy to see his Synagogue work and Riverside, Illinois pageant press release of his performance with my Mom.
Grateful for this internet deep dive Easter egg about my Dad.

“Conscientiousness has marked Bruce F. Perryman’s three years at De Paul. A voice major in the School of Music, Bruce is a member of the Advanced ROTC Corps of cadets and a member of the De Paul University Choir. Bruce has also made the Dean’s List every semester.” #schöneTochter
VOICE STUDIO MIDTERM PRACTICUM FUN E. Perryman 4.2.2025
I held the midterm exam for my applied voice studio tonight. The collegiates came through with flying colors on this practical application exam. Each student led one vowel focused vocalize and one tongue twister. I was declared officially the “voices in their head” as I whispered vocal remedy interjections to them at certain passaggio points etc. It was delightful to see these young pedagogy padawans wear their varied teacher hats and put their own spin on how to teach others to sing. I was inspired by their fresh takes and creative approaches.
Highlights of the night included the following:
An adorned whiteboard with helpful visual aides and thoughtful challenges e.g. “sing this pattern on solfège.”
Empathy in relating with each other regarding the ongoing challenges we face as singers.
One had the innate teacher look mastered e.g. they are a lot of fun but you know not to mess with them.
Meeting resonant speaker Dr Bobbington, an alter ego of one of the students who captured our undivided attention.
Vernacular standouts: Let your arms be noodles; find your twisty twisty, feel the pocket of an open embouchure, and find your Kermit mouth. @miriam.lupu_ @karafreedmann @wannabe.clown @antt_romano @__princessleah
Today was a delightful voice exploration with two talented tenors. Both come to their lessons very driven and ready to woodshed (which I have found to be common with this voice type;-) Teaching voice after 3 decades continues to be a journey of finding authentic compression and efficient phonation via a meeting of mutual vocabulary. These two whippersnappers come to the pedagogy table so to speak with fresh perspectives when vocally guided. Patrick said in his epic stream of conscious “I have a lot of words at my disposal that I tend to use at my discretion.” Indeed.
Some of their discoveries of note were the following as I worked through Italian vowels, body release in particular the neck/jaw/tongue…..
Patrick: When I was able to produce the singing order of operations (breathe into vowel space) I found the balance between the syrup and carbonation (which I found an amazing analogy to core and compression of singing). It felt WEIRD; more present in front, not clutched, less hiding, more enjoyable and thoughtless, free to be more honest, felt more lyric and overall more immediate. Side note, Kiwi seems to enjoy his beard.
Brian @thetacetmode found his alignment with the coexisting of the ng lean, spacious breath, free tongue, and contact to compression. When these elements were thriving, he was able to trust and surrender to the aerobically energetic breath support. His quotes throughout are always spot on. What we resist, definitely does persist.
As I help others to strip the layers of tension we build out of fear, I challenge myself to practice what I preach. My singing continues to evolve my robust matron years, waxing towards crone. Giddy up. #voiceteacher #tenors #spaceandenergy #bodykeepscount #akintsucrooner
